Lockbin for Outlook

Request documents and send files securely without leaving Outlook. Click Lockbin while you write an email: Lockbin adds a secure upload button, or locks your files and adds a secure link to your own email. Works in new Outlook, Outlook on the web, classic Outlook for Windows and Outlook for Mac.

Download Lockbin for Outlook How to set it up

Free with any Lockbin account. It installs from a small file you add in Outlook, which takes about a minute.

Set it up

1
Download

Download Lockbin for Outlook. It's a small file named lockbin-outlook.xml.

2
Add it to Outlook

Open Outlook's add-ins page: work or school account or Outlook.com or Hotmail. Choose My add-ins, scroll to Custom add-ins, click Add a custom add-in > Add from file, pick the file and click Install. It then shows in every Outlook you sign in to with that account.

3
Connect

Start a new email, click Apps in the toolbar, then Lockbin. Click Connect Lockbin and sign in. You only sign in once. No account yet? Create one free.

How to use it

Request documents

Tick what you need (photo ID, tax return, signed forms) or type your own, then click Request these files. A secure upload button goes into your email. Send it as usual; your client uploads from any device, no account needed.

Send files securely

Put your recipient in To, open the Send files tab and choose your files. Lockbin encrypts them and adds a secure link to your email, so your recipient gets one email, from you.

Your files never go through Outlook
  • Files go straight from your computer to Lockbin, encrypted. Only the link goes into your email.
  • Uploads and replies arrive in your Lockbin inbox, encrypted to your account.
  • The add-in can only add to the email you're writing. It can't read your other email or your Lockbin files.
  • Keep patient or client details out of the email itself. Lockbin's BAA covers what you send through Lockbin, not your email account.
Can my whole office use it?

Yes. A Microsoft 365 admin can add it for everyone: in the Microsoft 365 admin center go to Settings > Integrated apps > Upload custom apps and give it this link:https://lockbin.com/Outlook/ManifestEach person signs in with their own Lockbin login.

Outlook says "Add a custom add-in" isn't allowed

Some offices turn off custom add-ins. Ask your Microsoft 365 admin to add Lockbin for everyone (above).

I don't see Lockbin

It shows while you write an email, not while you read one. Click Apps in the toolbar above the message; in some versions it's in the ... menu. After adding it, Outlook can take a few minutes to show it; restarting Outlook helps.

Which Outlook does it work in?

Outlook on the web, new Outlook for Windows and Mac, and classic Outlook for Windows with Microsoft 365 or Outlook 2021 and later. It works with work and school accounts and with Outlook.com and Hotmail. It isn't in the Outlook phone apps yet.

Does it cost extra?

No. It uses your Lockbin plan. The free plan includes 10 secure messages and one document request. Premium is $10 per user a month, with unlimited requests and a signed HIPAA BAA.

How do I disconnect?

Open Lockbin in an email and choose Disconnect at the bottom. Changing your Lockbin password also disconnects it.
