Lockbin for Gmail™

Request documents and send files securely without leaving Gmail. Click the Lockbin lock while you write an email: Lockbin adds a secure upload link, or opens a window to send encrypted files. Works with Google Workspace and personal Gmail accounts.

Get it from the Google Workspace Marketplace Already installed? Open Gmail

Signed in to more than one Google account? Google's install only works with one. Open a private or Incognito window, sign in only to the Gmail account you want Lockbin on, and install from there.

Set it up

1
Install

On the Marketplace listing, click Install and allow access. Signed in to more than one Google account? Do this in an Incognito window signed in to just one. If Google then sends you to this page, the install is done.

2
Open Gmail

Open Gmail on a computer, in the account you installed it on. If Gmail was already open, reload it. Then click Compose.

3
Click the lock

Click the Lockbin lock at the bottom of the new email, then Connect and sign in to Lockbin. You only sign in once. No account yet? Create one free.

How to use it

Request documents

In a new email, click the lock, tick what you need (photo ID, insurance card, records) and click Add upload link. Send your email as usual. Your client uploads from their phone, no account needed.

Send files securely

Click Send a file securely. A Lockbin window opens; pick your files and send. Lockbin encrypts them and emails your recipient a secure link.

Your files never go through Gmail
  • Uploads and attachments go straight from the browser to Lockbin, encrypted. The add-on only handles the link.
  • Responses arrive in your Lockbin inbox, encrypted to your account.
  • The add-on can't read your Gmail messages or your Lockbin files.
  • Keep patient or client details out of the Gmail email itself. Lockbin's BAA covers what you send through Lockbin, not your Gmail account.
Google says "Sorry, unable to open the file at this time"

This Google error usually means you're signed in to more than one Google account in the same browser. Open a private or Incognito window, sign in only to the Gmail account you want Lockbin on, and install from the listing there. Then open Gmail in that same window to connect Lockbin.

I don't see the Lockbin lock

Reload Gmail and check you're in the account you installed it on. The lock is in the toolbar at the bottom of a new email, near Send. Lockbin also shows in Gmail's right-hand side panel.

Does it cost extra?

No. It uses your Lockbin plan. The free plan includes 10 secure messages and one document request. Premium is $10 per user a month, with unlimited requests and a signed HIPAA BAA.

Does it work with personal Gmail?

Yes. It works the same on Google Workspace and personal gmail.com accounts, because your files go to Lockbin, not Google.

Can my whole office use it?

Yes. A Google Workspace admin can install it for everyone. Each person signs in with their own Lockbin login.

How do I disconnect?

Open the Lockbin add-on in Gmail and choose Disconnect. Changing your Lockbin password also disconnects it.
